Carveboard-anyone tried one?

I’ve been thinking about trying to get ahold of a Carveboard-they look like heaps of fun but are pricey as, especially when shipping costs overseas are added. Has anyone tried one out enough to give a good account of their performance? How do they do at high speed? I’ve also looked on ebay, a bit cheaper there. Thanks for any info anyone can give!

Have a carve stick now for about 3 years and love it. I’ve been on the carve board too. It’s more like surfing than any other skate I’ve been on. If you have the money to spare then go for it.

I forgot to add that it sucks at high speed. It does bomb big steep hills though you just have to keep the speed in check by constantly turning it. ~15 mph before it wobbles.

Got a carvestik a couple of months ago, They are unreal, just like surfing on concrete. I’d Highly recommend them as a surf training aid & as a whole lotta fun. You cant bomb hills to fast as they get the wobbles, but for big carves and grab rail turns they are ace

Forget it for speed. Its designed to carve turns… If you have nice hills around you get a Carveboard. If its kinda flat get a CarveStik… I have both and love them both. I’ve really noticed my surfing has been more crisp and I fall off less after using them a lot… It totally trains your body for riding waves… All the same muscles and technique laying it over… If you use the Carveboard on long hills, go with a friend and take turns driving the car behind the guy… Gives you time to rest your burning legs and multiple runs till you drop are possible… Hehe!! I use the CarveStik on a slightly bowled smooth surface at my daughters school. She and my wife rollerblade and I carve… We all listen to our own favorite music and have a couple hour session every Saturday when sunny…

I think you have to have the ability to visualize surfing while your doing it to maximize the experience. Picture yourself on the wave…Like Brad Gerlach mentioned in the promo video, you can work on a certain turn over and over a hundred times if you like. When you hit the water, the turn is pretty much second nature… Throw on your favorite music in your ipod and it is just to much fun!!!

Here’s some pics from their site…

Had to throw this one in… Hehe…

15 MPH…not enough juice.

I’ve been clocked at 40 on my short deck (which I retro-fitted with 76mm kryptos, a 156 mm indy truck, and a riser pad).

Can’t they just stabilize the oscillations…it is a straightforward design change…cuz unstable at higher speeds is no way to go through life.

Everything about a Carveboard is designed for rail-to-rail, constant carving, not speed. As such, it is a very close approximation of the feeling of surfing, and, to me, even closer to snowboarding. But you wobble as soon as you point it downhill & stop carving.

Tire PSI has a heck of a lot to do with speed & control. 25 psi feels like an icy upper-mountain run in the shadows, 15 psi feels like sunny spring slush and 5 psi feels like chasing your kids between the beginners down the village run.

One thing I like about the Carveboard is its big enough to take my kids on & let them feel the balance. My son was almost 4 here, now he & his brother can use it alone. Coming around the final turn, heading down to the house

If you want downhill speed, get a long deck, put on big heavy Randalls with stiff bushings like Clouds or something, and big, hard wheels. Air tires & trucks with coil springs in 'em aren’t the thing for speed.

I also have a Sector 9 Luke Nosewalker that is great for cross-stepping, noseriding, etc. at the playground when the kids are on their bikes. And then I get on my older son’s BMX & he rides the Nosewalker and we do tow-ins where I give him the whip  He can pull some sweet turns, for an 80-pounder  …but that’s another story…

My point was that it is not that tough (pretty easy, in fact) to get rid of speed wobble entirely…and that 15 mph is pretty slow for some people on hills…

I agree about 15 mph. Just if I wasn trying to get rid of speedwobble, I wouldn’t start with a Carveboard.

Blake, you a Skyline guy?

I was clocked at 40 on Lawton crossing Sunset. I used to downhill coming home from work every day, usually Ortega from 25th to 42nd, a 17 block downhill. Lawton was a bit steeper, and if it was hot the asphaldt would get slippery and faster than intended…

15 mph? That’s practically going backwards…

i ride a 47" Gravity hypercarve, mostly for high speed hill runs. it doesn’t get wobbly at all and carves turns really smooth and crisp. it’s not a good board for city terrain or high traffic areas as it’s not maneuverable at low speeds, but for open hills its great.

another great diversion on a flat day is to get a golf cart(4wheeler, moped, etc will work) tie a leash, ski rope, whatever, to the back and tow friends around at high speeds. longer, stretchier leash= mo fun, harder carves.

Coming from regular longboards w/ Randals and ABEC 11 wheels, I didn’t like the feel of my friend’s Carveboard. Like others said, it’s not built for speed and like the name it’s strictly for carving on hills. I prefer more versatility, something I can rock on the flats or the hills and will be fun at 15mph- 35+ mph.

shameless pitch here but i have a used one im selling for 200 if anyone is interested pm me. So much fun if you have hills. VB is flat.

a friend has his crve stik stolen twice it was really fun i ride a 44 maggie dregs, my only complaint with my board is that if i tried sliding it , it grabs and tosses me, i would love a carve board, carve boards for hills carve stik for flater areas

i just bought a carvestik and it is fun. not many hills in florida, but lots of parking garages!

has anyone tried european made holey trucks and the new abec 11 zig zags?

all I can say is wow…

turns almost as good as a carveboard, but I probally hit 30 on it yesterday
