Any idea when this board was made or any other info about it? 6’2" single fin diamond tail 1/8 redwood stringer. nose 13 1/2", wide point 18 3/4", 7" ahead of center. tail 13" no tail rocker ,slight V last third of board. 2 7/8" thick. Yellow deck and rails with three pin lines at top lap. Clear bottom. Turned down rails. long fin box set in with red resin. Came with black composite 6" fin. Small Catri decal on bottom. 018 penciled in on stringer. I assume it was made by Dick Catri of FL. I bought it in the late 80’s at Asheville NC. Thanks
Was the Catri label very small and look kinda like typewriter type?
Yes greg. about 1/4 inch high typewriter looking letters.
Built in the VERY early 70’s. I was the hot coat/fin guy at the time and started shaping there about that time. It was shaped by either Dick, John Rice or Joey Thomas. Probably Joey. Wayne Land also did a few and Joe Blair too. Tom Maus (who now shapes for Takayama) was the guy who put on those pinlines and glossed it. Larry Pope (who has sanded more boards than anyone on Earth) was the sander and Rich Price (Natural Art’s long time shaper) was the polisher. Donnie Mulhern and Fred Grossgretz were the laminators. The color was a reverse lap, probably Fred did that. Larry Tuttle (inventor of the Tuttle fin box in sailboards) was also working there at the time and may have done some of the work as well. Quite a dynamic crew for sure. Four East Coast Hall of Famers in there.
I picked this Catri up at a yardsale, with the intent of fixing the dings as best I can, and selling it. Its about 5'6" (I haven't measured), with very little rocker. Resin pin lines.
