Challenger appraisal

Hi all. I was wondering if any of you could help me ball-park an appraisal price on an old Challenger board I have. There is only the name “Challenger” on the deck…no model name. It is 6’8" and around 21.5" wide if I remember correctly…roounded pin-tail…has no fin plug…and has, what I believe is the original fin. I was told by a collector on the east coast was that it is most likely a Challenger Micro Model Formula V (probably built in 1968-69)…that’s what he gathered from the dimensions and board number. He made me an offer over the phone, but I didn’t want to sell it at the time. Well, as things would have it, my best friend and surf compadre Pauly wants to buy it from me. Now I don’t want to hose a friend by asking too much, but then again, I don’t want to get hosed either…so I put forth this request. Does anyone have an idea of what a fair price would be for this board? I rate the condition around an 8 out of 10. It is water-tight, no discoloration, and is in pretty good condition considering the age and the fact that I found it in a junk shop! Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Dee

Aloha!

If he’s your friend, GIVE him the board. Aloha! Oh if it were that simple… He has a longboard that I want, but I think his is worth much more. I don’t want the exchange to be better for one than the other…I’m always concerned when buying or selling anything with friends…afraid of any animosity I guess! Dee

maybe this’ll help.I had one -it had an acid wash psychedelic color job.dinged up,a big twist in it and no fin. I traded it and $75. for a Bing Nuuhiwa Lightweight(8’8’‘) without a fin.I later saw the challenger for sale with dings fixed and a new reproduction fin for (I think)$675.Mine was 8’. The color job was key.It seems certain types of collectors are driven wild by acid splashes, paislies, flower decks and the like.Offer your pal a trade and see what happens.Tho’ I do like the idea of giving it to him too.

Tho’ I do like the idea of giving it to him too. Can I be friends with you guys? Me: “Dude, I like your board, can I have it?” You: “Sure, my friend, it is yours.” Me: “Thanks, want this old piece of gum?” Surf hard, Dave

Thanks Dave. You gave me a good chuckle this morning with your posting. You said exactly what I was thinking each time someone suggested giving away this board. Dee>>> Can I be friends with you guys?
