Channel Islands M4

I just picked up a CI M4 6’3" X 18 1/4" X 2 1/4" for my brother in-law. He’s 5’4" and 155 lbs. He’s a good, strong surfer but definitely no pro. This board has a beautiful planshape, bottom contour, and rail design however it really seems like a potato chip to me. Granted, I’m 6’1" and 185 lbs. and anything less than 2 5/8" is very thin to me.

Here’s the question: Do you think this board is too thin for someone of his size?

Not at all, especially if he can surf half way decent. Actually, if he is a pretty good surfer, when riding solid, small to medium waves, the board may be a little big.

He’ll be riding solid, head high plus waves in Costa Rica by this coming Thursday.

I guess I’ve been riding longboards, hybrids and fish so much lately that I’ve lost touch with the high perf shortboard.

That’s a rounded pin right? That should be a nice ride for Costa, especially WITH the extra length for those juicier days! I wish I was in COSTA.

Considering my own experiences (5’6" and 145lbs) and checking out the board on the CI site:

I agree with GMAN’s 2 posts.

Thanks for the replies. I gave him the board yesterday and he loved it! He should be in the water at Playa Grande right about now. We’ll find out how well it works for him after his return on the 15th.

I wish I had a brother-in-law like you!!! :frowning:
