cheap skil planers on ebay

just an FYI for anyone looking for such, there are currently a couple of fairly priced skil 100’s on ebay, I just picked one up with a best offer of $175, there is a type 3 for $200 or best offer, a skil 190 for $200 and an early model 5.5 amp for 300 buy it now…

grab one, send it to PeteC for a retrofit, and you’re set.

are they in america?

I assume so? I’d love one but havent seen one in Aus.

I watch Ebay every day.  I see the one for $300 , but $175 and $200 ??  Haven’t seen anything like that in months. If I did see something like that, you wouldn’t have got it. Yeah I think it is a good idea for everyone to go over to Ebay and take a look.  Sort of a reality check.  On the contrary;  It’s my opinion that good usable Skils are drying up.   Lowel

I snagged the type three. 200 bones.

Thanks for the heads up!

Good deal for both of you.  I pass when I’m broke.  But other than the one for $300 everything else is over priced.  Especially when you consider that you don’t know what your getting.

Aloha WideAWAKE,

I have the Skil 100 owners manuals, for the 5.5 amp. and the 7.5 amp models.      If you need one, I will provide it to you, next time you’re down this way.

Bill,

That would be awesome. Thanks!

What is the best way to contact Pete C?

Try a PM through Swaylock’s.

good grief another type 3 popped up.  One bid, at $150.  green paint all over it, and a dented handle.  Its a good week to be planer shopping I guess.

Yes and six days of bidding left.

I searched ebay straight after I saw this one and there was nothing even close to it on there, i dont think it will let me see US listings on my phone.

probably a good thing as the shipping and 240 volt adapter would cost a bomb.

there’s plenty of time left on the auction, but with a similar machine having a buy it now price of $300, why would anyone bid more than that?

Given how many guys here would like to own one, I just think its nice to see some rebuildable planers up there with a starting price less than $800.

Five days left and it’s at $202.  There was one on a couple of weeks ago for $275 “Buy it now”.  It went in about two days.  Considering the high prices; that was a deal.  Of course you have to figure the shipping which if you don’t box it yourself can be $75.  I actually can’t believe the one for $300 has sat that long.  It proves my "Bro Deal " theory.  Surfers are cheap.

Step Ups/ Step Downs are cheap on Ebay and Amazon.

Two ‘tips’ if you’re looking…

  1.  Try purposeful misspellings like “Skill” instead of “Skil.”

  2.  Also try both spellings on ‘Searchtempest.com.’

Occasionally people list stuff on Craigslist.  Searchtempest checks as many cities as you specify.  Beware of ads that do not have direct contact info.  I look for actual phone numbers.  There are a lot of folks that are simply collecting email addresses for sucker lists. Answering an ad via the Craigslist indirect contact info is just asking for more spam in your inbox.

Craigslist sellers might also be more inclined to go for a cash and carry deal with no shipping involved.  That said, I have had success buying stuff on Craigslist from distant sellers. It helps to offer a few bucks for their time. (shipping and handling)

Figured if I talked it up someone would by it.

If you let Pete C. rebuild it you will basically have a new planer that should last a lifetime.

To your point, I’m still using the Skil 100 that I bought new in 1964.        That’s 52 years, and running.        Not quite my lifetime, but it’s getting close.
