Just finished my first longboard typle board (Board #5). It’s only a 7’0" but it sure looks and feels like a “longboard” to me. My second resin splash job, done with the help of the guy who is getting the board. He was stoked to help do the color scheme on the bottom. Last time I couldn’t get the different colors to run over the rails…this one they look pretty good. Board is 7’0"/21.5/2.75" with a single to double concave through the fins. Added some rocker in the tail and nose since this is Hawaii. First fin box install (thanks for the help from those who gave input on my thread) and it came out pretty good. Ended up glassing over it just in case. The tail is real thin, so the box was way out of the bottom towards the tail. Also did a leash loop through the deck and like the results. Pretty darn easy and looks sharp IMO. I’d love to hear some feedback. I don’t ride these types of boards, so I’m hoping it works for my friend. He usually rides a longboard but wanted something like a longboard that would perform on better waves. Gave him the fin setup for versatility. Any advice on good fins to get for this size/type of board? Again…SWAYLOCKS RULES!!! Thanks for all the inspiration and guidance.
Thanks for the input. To answer your questions…Chip you were right on all your guesses. Clark foam/2 layers 6oz deck and 6oz on the bottom, and its poly. I really want to try epoxy, but I still have a few boards before the poly comes out perfect. Lavz…to get the shine I just used 400/600/shurelustre (2 applications per side) and then some car wax buffed in with a wool pad. Pretty shiny, although you can still see some of the scratches from the 400 on the bottom. Good enough for me though. The pinline is just a Posca pen and some thin masking tape for guides. My friend got to surf it today, but I have yet to hear from him. Hopefully he is still in the water lovin’ it!
