I’ve been fixing up this old house and I found a Burning Spears under the floor. It’s had a bit of butchery done to it around the tail and fins but it’s mostly in pretty good condition. I don’t think thew owners of the house even knew it was there. I’ll be asking them later on tonight. They don’t surf.
I don’t think it was shaped by Al himself as it has W.L. 6’7" X 19" -2943- written on it. I’m not sure who “W.L.” is. Any ideas?
I was thinking of offering about $100 for it -ie taking $100 off my bill. I’m not sure what they’ll say.
Yeah, so I’m pretty excited about fixing this baby up. I reckon I’ll mess round with it for a week or two. Once I’ve fixed all the dings I’ll probably give it a nice gloss coat. I’m all ears though if anyone has any suggestions.
The other option, once you have the board, there is a NZ vintage board collectors FB page and a very active vintage surfboard collectors page with a lot of interest in AB boards. I could ask there if you’re not into FB.
Thanks Bob. As it turns out the board belongs to the client’s sister who lives overseas. Judging by the condition of the board I don’t think she’s that serious about surfing. I’m currently trying to negotiate a sale, but it might take a while. In the mean time I’ll check out than link. Cheers.
I emailed Byrning Spears and it turns out that the board was shaped by a guy called Wayne Lowen in the early 90’s. I don’t know how much I should offer for it. I’m super keen to get my hands on it though.
