I saw a thread recently on building racks - here's what I've been doing: I like building with wood rather than PVC, but the PVC is perfect for keeping boards safe and ding free. I take the plastic pipe and cut it longways on my bandsaw, then I pop it onto 2 X 3 fir, and build from there. You can attach the wood to existing shelf brackets, or like in one of the photos, I built up a free standing rack for my kayaks. A tip for cutting the pipe: set up the fence on the saw, then follow the writing thats printed on the pipe as it is usually perfectly straight.
guess where I got the idea for cutting the PVC and squishing it onto the wood??????
