circular ding

Hello all,

I was changing the wax on my board and found a smack right over the top of the logo, about1/3 up from the bottom of the board…either heel or ass dent i imagine. The smack is round and about 1 inch across with rings progressively going wider to about a 4 inch diameter. The impression is not great, maybe 1/8 inch at the most. Should I dremel the cracks, fill with resin than a layer of glass over the top or what is the best way to fix this?

Also, with the cold snap we’re having here in socal, how cold is too cold for repairs…should I just increase catalyst?

thanks for all the help…

Sand down to the fabric (carefully) until the cracks are gone, then lay a piece of 4 oz cloth in the depression. Lam resin, let it go off. Hotcoat and sand smooth. If you want to gloss it, leave the hotcoat a little low, then fill it in with the gloss. Wet sand so it’s flat with the surrounding resin, and polish. I wouldn’t go too hot with the catalyst, because it may yellow later. Just wait till it gels and apply some warmth, like with a 500 watt lightbulb, but only for a short time. Doug

Follow Doug’s steps; those shatter rings will leak and you’ll soon have a big brown spot. Cosmetically, you can brush some straight styrene on the sanded area just before you glass. This will make whatever cracks that are left after the prep sanding disappear. As a rule, I just don’t glass when it’s less than 65 F. I haven’t done any glassing since before the weekend, and I saw some ice this morning here in Dana Point.

Hey thanks guys, appreciated. Blew me away, the board is a Weber Stylist and has a heavy glass job. I weigh a whopping 150 lbs and there is not a pressure ding on the deck for over 2 years now…oh well, such is life. Ive been lucky with the board, especially this summer…sooooo many people in the water firing torpedoes.

There was ice on my lawn in ventura earlier in the week as well, frickin cold.

thanks again…
