hi! im trying to get as close as possible the dimensions of a 9’9" cj nelson noserider. does anyone out there have a CJ board that is around this length that they could measure for me? im trying to get my head around the template as im going to try and make my own board of a similar design, and would really appreciate the with at say 3" intervals down the length of the board from the stringer… i live in australia and this model is not that common so its difficult to get the measurements myself. if anyone can offer any help at all it would be very much appreciated!
Hello tiptime 10, Australia, so many excellent pointbreaks, it’s definitely on my places to go list. I used to have a pu/fiberglass CJ model (they make them in surftech, go figure???). Anyway the first thing I remember is that it was heavy, around 22 lbs probably. It was glassed with volan, use 8 or 10 oz and lots of resin. Use a high density blank. Rails were sharp 50/50 to up rails at the end of the square tail which was between 7" - 8". I do remember the exact outline dimensions: 9’6" x 20"N x 24"W x 16"T x 3" thick. Paralell rails and some hjp in the tail. Rocker was pretty flat except for a kick in the tail. Bottom contours: deep concave on the nose to belly throughout the rest of the board. Use a big pivot fin. No leash please. Sold it because I wanted a 9’10" now I got a Bing Silverspoon. I have to warn you, this board works only on very lined up long pointbreak waves from ankle to head high and I consider it a one manouver oriented board although it helped me learn to cross step and do proper drop knee turns with style.
tonylion! thank you so much for your description! ill be using those pointers when i start work on it. im actually making it out of paulownia (i usually shape and ride alaias thought id try a mal) so there shouldn’t be any problem with getting the weight up.
hope you get a chance to come and checkout some of the aussie points sometime soon!
this reply was really helpful, but id like to keep the call out for the exact dimensions down the whole length of the board id really like to compare my curves to the real thing (see first post).
