clark foam blank

Hey gang, it's been a while since I posted on here, I used to be under spencersurf.  First of all, thanks to all the advice this forum has given to help me shape some boards in the past.  I'm still surfing some of those boards today from 6 years ago.  Anyways, I still have 1 Clark foam blank, a 10'1" Y.  I haven't lost the interest in shaping, but everybody knows/feels the economic crunch.  I'm considering selling it and was wondering what some of the experts on here might value it as.  I'll post some pics of it later when I get home from work.  Thanks again to all.  Eric

I'm no expert - I would just like to point out that as with all types of memorabilia, there is often a rush for collectables immediately after a related personality dies.

I noticed that sort of thing happening right after the Clark shut down.  I sold a 12'3" Clark blank back then to a guy for $1000.  I doubt I'd get that now.

If your blank is in perfect condition, bright white, with no outline tracing or damage it might be worth something extra to someone who has to a collector or someone who must have a Clark.  Other than that, there are good modern blanks available out of the Yater mold and I read they have since tweaked/improved the plug.

A quick check on a retail website shows similarly sized blanks going for about $150.00.  In all fairness unless it has a custom triple stringer or something, that's probably a reasonable price if you actually expect to sell it anytime soon.

John,

You're absolutely correct.    I've been shaping some US BLANKS recently, and they are FAR SUPERIOR to the Clark Blanks of old.    I would not go out of my way to use a Clark blank to make a board today, and would NOT pay a premium to obtain one.

I have at least fifty assorted Clark and they are all as John described;  white,  no outlines etc.  I saw four 9'1' Y's sold as a lot at Rarricks auction in Honolulu four or five years ago for $1000.  That's  $250 ea.  Could you get that today?  Absolutly not!  You would be lucky to get the equivalent of what a Surfblanks or US Blanks in the same size would cost.  I have two 10' 1" Y's in my "pile".  One's a triple stringer.  Why do I hang on to 'em.  Sentimentality I guess.  I agree with Bill.  A US Blank is far superior to a Clark.  When I cruise craigslist or ebay and see old brown clarks for sale.  Cheap or otherwise.  I pass.  If you've never shaped a Clark.  Shape it.  At least then you can speak with expertise when in the future you and da boyz are hanging around the shop talking story about various blanks

Back in 2004-05 after Clark I was paying $140 for a good clark 9' something.

I had bought a 9'8 & 10'1Y on saturday at the old Foam EZ shop from Brad

just prior to Black Monday for a lot less.  Today, I wouldn't touch one unless I

had a special request from someone waving a big number of dollars in my face.

The guys at US & Surfblanks are great in customer service and the lightness of

the blanks, durability, shapability & overall choices are better that Clark foam.

That being said, I still wish I had saved the rocker specs that I had with Clark that

ended up disapearing in the meltdown.  We have adjusted, and are no longer

in thrall. (look it up...).  I like the future, and it is now!!!

There’s a couple of Clark blanks for sale near Cape Cod, right now on Craigslist.  Asking price is $300 for two.
