Clark Foam Twist

In JC’s Shaping 101 videa he states taht there has never been a blank made without twist. Does anyone know if Clark foam has upgraded their technique to the point they can produce a blank without twist. I hate taking out twist. I don’t care for that kind of challenge frankly. I would like to avoid a profile shaping machine…sounds like I am leaning towards CNC shaping… OH, no!!!HELP!!!

When I first started apprenticing with Tinker at Challenger, he would give me all of the blanks that were returned to Clark because of twists. He had a standing order with Clark that he would take the twisted blanks at a 2nd discount price. It was a pain in the butt at first, but as time wore on I could take the biggest abortion of a blank and have it shapable in about 10 minutes. The deck is the most important to true up, the bottom is going to be thinned and rockered anyway and will need to be corrected , twisted or not. I am seeing seasoned shapers that have been on the machine so much that they are having a difficult time returning to hand shapes. It is like all mastered skills, use them or lose them. JP Besides, even if Clark made the blanks perfect, which would be next to impossible (rocker program among other issues), odds are twist would end up in the finish product through shaping, glassing, or unlevel racks. This is regardless of weather or not the blanks were CNC’d. And if you think blanks CNC’d are perfect, you are sourly mistaken. Besides if you asked 5 different experienced shapers to evaluate the twist and thick and thin in a finished board you would get 5 different answers. Odds are Carper wouldn’t be able to tell if a blank was or wasn’t twisted. I wouldn’t dwell on it, who says twisted boards dont surf better any way.
