clark foam

Is there a way to get clark blanks in West Virginia delivered cheaper or a place to pick them up in Va Beach or something. Also I am thinking about what every one feels about volan glass as apposed to e s and k glass or carbon kevlar and hybrids

For blanks in Va Beach contact Dave at Seasoned Surfboards - 757-425-6025 or you can also call the warehouse where WRV stores their blanks at - 757-422-4429. Seasoned can supply you with most anything as far as foam, glass, resin, fins etc. and they have always hooked me up good. Hope this can be of some help, Rob

THank you very much!

If you want a better deal than Seasoned or WRV, talk to Tim Nolte. Seasoned and WRV, unless your buying ALOT of blanks will not cut you a break. Tim is much nicer to deal with, and in my opinion turns out a much better product, plus is more willing to help people get started than the above mentioned companies.

My opinion differs from the last post Dave can sell you a board kit with everything you need and Wrv is super easy to deal with. When I started shaping both companies helped me out Also they both build high quality boards I have glassed around 50,000 so hopefully my opinion counts for something

Didn’t mean to insinuate that they wouldn’t sell the stuff someone needs to make a board. It’s just that through personal experience with both I found better deals(& advice) with Tim Nolte. Curious though…glassed 50,000 boards…in the Va Bch area? That would mean you must work for WRV(or Seasoned both), right? That or you’ve one hell of a garage we’d all be jealous of.

I grew up in VB but glassed in a large factory out west so I did tons of Rusty’s ,LOST , XANADU’s ect. But I learned to glass in VB and have done work for Seasoned

I like to have buying anything , especially something you’re excited about, be a pleasant experience. I bought a kit from WRV. The lady at the factory was super nice and easygoing on the phone. When I went to the showroom in VA Beach to pick up the kit I was exposed to the brother of the owner who works there and has no business in a retail environment. The guy is aloof and borderline hostile - about as helpful as a land mine - but his brother owns the place so apparently they can’t get rid of him. And it wasn’t personal. I was told he behaves that way frequently. I am out of there. It’s good to hear there are other options for getting blanks locally. Fiberglass Supply has a good deal on cloth and resin. If you buy less than 5 gal at a time and have it mailed to your office ( any commercial address) you can save a lot on shipping.

Glad to see it wasn’t just me,I went to WRV and ran into the guy while looking to buy rash guards for my kids. The guy was a beligerant jack*ss and all I did was ask what the price was on a rash gaurd that had no tag. Enough to convince me I’d never spend another dime there. F.Y.I, If you go into Coastal Edge or R.K.'s you’ll notice their pushing(hard) those chinese knockoffs, Seasoned surfboards was replacing all the fake FCS plugs and fins for the importer(M.Dolsey) when he got in trouble with FCS over the knockoff fin system. As my own personal choice,I will no longer support any of these people with my business, If they can’t support the local shapers…I can’t support them.

Ive heard of Tim Nolte, I just never checked him out. Doesnt he have a shop on the way down to OBX? Does anyone know how to reach him? I must agree about the whole vibe at the WRV store. I rarely go there because ive always had the same kind of experience. They always seem too cool to give a shit or something. Definitley not customer oriented. Unless of course maybe you start waving daddy’s credit card around. Also, Im not sure if anyone has really heard, but Redman passed away last week. If you surf VB youve probably heard of him. Ironic I should mention it I guess being that he did alot of work for WRV, but anyhow, he was an awesome shaper as far as Im concerned. I owned quite a few of his boards and there wasnt one that I didnt absolutely fall in love with. Redman was awesome - Aloha brother.

…Redman was great,he even shaped a few for me while I owned Rainbow Bridge in L.B. …Sorry to hear of his passing. He was a inventor of sorts,he had that air-tunnel board, what a trip…A Great and Talented shaper…he was also the one I showed my quadfin fish back in 77-78 to, with Jerry Moe.Herb

I am a shaper from VB and if you need some foam or something and dont wanna deal with WRV or the shipping cost just shoot me an email. http://members.cox.net/austinsurfboards

tim nolte is very helpful and makes great boards. He also does a great job fixing boards. i have to agree with you on WRV. They seem to sell the surf “culture” for kooks and posers. Thats just the impression i get from the store in OBX
