Clear board asthetics

Hello,

I’m just looking for hints for improving board finishing asthetics. The laps show through more than I would like and sanding is not the problem. I’m looking for solutions for reducing laps showing through on the finished product, not to mention the glass patches from future fins. I guess I’m looking for the professional touch…almost there, but not quite show room quality. Any hints or suggestions are appreciated.

(Could cut laps help; or glasssing top to bottom first; or size of laps…)

Thanks,

Canuk

cut laps might help… you might still see a little difference in the color where the lap stops but at least it will be a straight line.

I can’t remeber which glass is which, could even be manufacturer, but I do remember certain types of glass were really clear when finished, others were very noticable.

Have a look at a professional built board.

They all show the laps, the cuts nose and tail, all the patches, including the bottom and deck. They just cut nice lines, to be athetically OK.

A good eye can find sandtrus, sureform marks, sanding marks on the blank, wobbly rail line cuts, uneven spots, on almost any board.

I think the glass you’re talking about is called “RWG”. It’s supposed to be brighter and whiter looking, and stronger than traditional E-Glass. I think it’s made by Hexcel Schweber. I used it on a board and it looked pretty sweet, it seemed to be a little bit more stringy than e-glass, but not too bad.
