clear glassed in fin base and fin

hi i have seen fixed in fins that are transparently clear at there base , you can see the base of the fin through the glass rope for each side, fixed in fin support, as if they never used it , every time i make a fin the more layers of glass i put on the more less transparent it gets , i have used a couple of different glass resin suppliers but i can not get it that clear, its as if they are not using any fibreglass rope at all for fin support? thanks

I haven’t seen good usable rope for 20 years so now we remove strands from 24oz woven roving and tape it together on the end. Break the horse tail over a nail 4 times to soften it up so it doesn’t white out. I use 249A with a dash of styrene with no additives and 2 layers of nice clear 6 oz E silene. Batches of cloth vary so that batch should be familiar or tested. Then as long as you get all the bubbles out you’re good.

You can break the roving over a nail or any smooth metal with a small radius

Wow! That’s damn good master level advice. Thanks Gene! Mike

the lam i use here in Australia goes by the name surfboard lam and its pretty clear i never used or herd of this 249A, I will try with the extra bit of knowledge you gave me ,thanks

I shall try that also , i do be leave in a bit more preparation can only make it better, thanks
