Coil and Timber Flex Featured in Eastern Surfing Magazine

This just in…

Highly placed sources within the editorial staff fo ESM, wishing to remain anonymous, report that the new issue will feature Space Coast Technology and the brainchildren of Greg Loehr with Timber Flex and the Brasington Bros with Coil. Might even mention Mike Daniel if he didn’t get too “smart assed” with them.

It should be available in print Monday the 9th and I assume later on their web site.

Looks like Resin Research and Coil no longer have to pay for advert’s. Ha.

Also, looks like the loosely organized virtual backroom skunkworks called Swaylocks is once again getting some visibility beyond our own egocentric world.

Should be interesting.

Someone help me with this, but was it Surfer Mag that once said that shaping and board building articles had no place in their magazine and that no one really cared about that? I’m pretty sure you are not reading this if you believe that.

Anyway, can’t wait to see what they say. Can’t wait to see if Mr. Slater takes up the vac bag, too. I mean it is the only thing I have on him. (hope that was funny)

i dont get it, you have a bag on slater?

Security breach at ESM! Heads will roll at next staff meeting!

Wouter, I think what Greg means is: he has a vacuum bag, KS does not. I know he’s not ‘‘bagging’’ on Slater. You speak what, like 4 or 5 languages? It’s inevitable that you’re going to miss a nuance.

Bag Slater? Why if you could he’d just cut his way out with his lazor ray vision. Getting him in a vacuum bag is the only way any of us could have a shot at beating him … I take that back … even then he’d beat all of us …

Looking forward to seeing what Mez and Doogs came up with …

First one to see the mag today, post something up!

Kellys got nothing on my poo stance!

Somehow I don’t think I’ll be first in Tucson.

I was thinkin’ Pony Express?

While we’re waiting for ESM to hit the stands, check this out:

(yesterday’s NY Times, in the “A” section. huzza!)

“I was thinkin’ Pony Express?”

That is why you will not be mentioned in the article.

Right on Mike that there is some good PR for sure and it is also a win for my beaches. That was lake worth pier in the background and that place has sucked since the last dredge project.Actually every dredge project that has been done down here in soflo has really fucked up the breaks and they are finally starting to recover after many years!!

Very nice board. I suppose your initials are on the bottom side? I wish you would put up some pic’s of that new tech so we could all drool. Talk about the darker fiber on the tail and bottom? What is it? Maybe resurrect the old Coil ride report thread.

Temporary hijack in progress:

The NY times article is about an important court decision affecting these dredging projects. This kind of thing don’t happen without people of conviction who will sign on the dotted line and show up in court to testify for hours on end.

Terry Gibson is one of these people.

Hopefully the decision in this case will have some positive effect on how Forida sustains it’s coastline. Killing or burying our nearshore reefs is not the answer.

ESM is out in print and web: http://www.easternsurf.com/index.html Article is called ‘‘Space Race’’. Kinda fitting, considering author Matt Walker’s dad is an astronaut (former shuttle pilot).

Cover shot is Noah Snyder by Scott Aichner/SURFER mag. Noah’s riding some pos shaped by a guy that posts on Swaylock’s.

GL’s got some good lines in there, we’ll exchange barbs later on here about one analogy he made regarding us.

We’ll see how long the Pony Express takes to get him his print copy.

What’d I say? I didn’t mean it honest … It was taken completely out of context …

Dude, that MW can write his ass off. I usually am critical of content and a real fan of the quality of the prose. Mr. Walker out did himself. I love the way he commented on each party and then pulled it together at the end. Perhaps the best tech piece I’ve read in a surf mag. I might be expected to be slanted in my opinion though… And to think it’s in ESM. I wonder if the ESM girl will read it and want us! BTW, IMHO I think a little MD might have been mentioned … but all of us know.

Thanks for the link.

I was talking about the ‘’ they’re I-tunes, we’re napster" quote. I thought it was really funny (so did Eric and Kirk), but had to give you grief about it…

Agree on quality of the piece, flattered to be involved. ESM outdid themselves. But I doubt it’ll do us much good with the ESM girl (we can dream, though…)

Be sure to read the ‘‘In This Issue’’ editor’s column also, Matt Pruett throws me under the bus but then rescues me. It’s a good piece as well and points out how our obsession with tech is lost on most surfers; that is until they ride something that outperforms a PU board…

Great article! Best thing I’ve seen in ESM ever except for the ESM Girls! Also does no one else mean that MIke D has never been beyond “the Green Door”?

So what do you guys think… maybe a year before the West Coast mags pick up on it all and give …Lost all the credit?

Props to all involved for sticking with it. Seeing more and more boards in the lineup but most people still don’t understand the concept. They think epoxy=Surftech.

Hey Dave, they teleported me in (not using the green door), so Kirk gets off on a technicality. It’s basically the same technology that Roy Stewart uses to keep getting on Swaylock’s. They also made me wear a blindfold and sign a bunch of legal documents that I didn’t understand.

Mike,

I knew it had to be something like that. If not you might not let them in your shaping room where a lot of the magic also happens. Was disappointed that they didn’t put your pic in there though. Again congrats on the article.
