colour matching ding repairs.

When repairing dings what material/product is used to colour match the coloured areas on the board. How and at what stage of the repair process is this colour matching done. I use SUN CURE resin on my repairs.

Roger: When you start getting into color matching you first have to figure out how the color was applied in the first place. Is is a foam tint (paint on foam), a color tinted lamination (resin pigment, either opaque or clear) or is the art/color applied to the surface of the hotcoat as in some of the newer short boards. Your goal is to reapply the color as close to the same way it was put on. You have to have a little experience in mixing primary colors to match colors and don’t be afraid to test first. You might run into some problems with suncure when adding pigments to the resin, you will have to add MEK as a hardener in some cases where the pigment interferes with the light transmission.
