So my air compressor burped out some oil from the crankcase and it landed right on my blank. I haven’t started shaping it and it doesn’t look like it saturated very deep. Will shaving this off with the planer contaminate a larger area? or the planer blade? I haven’t found anything in my search yet but I have limited time here at work.
I believe the proper term for that is a “foam stain”…all the hip glassers are doing it these days.
Check out the “…Resin tints and patterns” thread for more pictures of artful ways of applying compressor lubricant.
I would just try to cut out the contaminated area and shape the blank. If you have to cut deep and the cut still shows after shaping mix some foam dust into some resin and fill the gouge, squeegee it level, and laminate.
Also, get one of these and it wont happen again.
Are you sure it’s oil not rusty water? Looks like you have trap on the line.
My compressor is oil less. Not so good for heavy duty use but fine for backyard stuff. I’m sure you already know this.
Drain the tank and trap on a regular basis. If it is oil I would cut out the area so it does not get smeared all over the place.
sorry but what was the compressor being used for
as far as grinding laps, just use a dremel . they are digital. good bearings. the dremel 400 spins as low as 1000 rpm. use an angle grinder attachment for it and make up a miniture sanding pad,
u need a decent compressor for air tools plus grease trap water trap, die grinder, lines
they are heavy and have a big fat tube out the back
DREMEL
i use a clapped out old one thats spins to fast , no angle attachement and it does a great job
as far as removing the oil just try some course sandpaper to start
How offen do you change your oil?
Drain the water from the tank?
Change your Air Filter?
Clean your Oil Filter?
I am a mechanic by trade so I use it for other crap. Well, acutally the only thing it has been used for is sanding the last board. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to inspect but it burped it out the case breather, also the fill hole. I blew the filter out twice during the sanding process.
Thanks for the suggestions on cutting it out. I was leaning the way of seperate removal rather than just mowing with the planer.
The reason I commented is because I had to replace my pump ($400 plus).
Blown Head Gasket and values. I waited to long to change the pressure switch and never changed the oil.
From here on out I’m a firm believer in preventive maintainace.
Change Oil = Monthly
Change Air Filter = Every 90 Days
Drain Tank = Daily
Maintain Oil and Air Filters.
Check Belt tension and replace if needed (Every two year replace automatically)
Replace Pressure Switch = yearly regardless if it needs it or not! (Continuous operation)
The Air Compressor is the Heart of the Factory!
