Compsand engineering advice wished for [unfullfilled christmans wish]

Hey guys!!

About to start a 7.0 fun-mini-gun.

Does anybody have engineering guidelines as to where you want to place extra wood to achieve extra strength ?

As i understand the whole board should still flex as much, but not have stress in one place.

My thought is to place extra wood everywhere, same as for shortboards, just more.

  • Put more wood in nose [i broke one too]

  • More wood in the middle up to nose

  • Have wider rails

  • Initial thought is 3oz[inside]/3mm/4oz on deck, 3oz[inside]4mm/4oz on bottom, my rails are going to be 20mm corecell rails with springers.

  • reinforcement foam underneath feet.

On the tension side, i can understad that. But how to deal with the compression forces, is wood able to deal with that too? I fear not.

What do you guys do for your boards that will get severe punishment?

Any engineering ideas very welcome.

Cheers !

Wood is one of the best materials in compression!

Wood is a sort of natural composite (it has his own fibres and resin).

If you want to add more wood do it on the deck side. On the bottom just add more fibres if you want more strength.

I think the best thing is just to use a thicker deck-skin.

hey wouter

sounds okay

id be putting a patch over the front foot down to the grip

dont worry where the grip goes cuz theres grip there

also a bit of extra on the back foot toerail

4 oz is to light over balsa

i use 6 oz and it will still delam in high traffic areas

what happens is the balsa breaks down

run a couple of heavier boards on the deck side down the middle

and use light balsa on the bottom
