concave or No-Concave for noseriding??

Howzit harris,Got your PM and thanks for clearing things up. Hope your injury is not serious and recovery is short. Take care and keep up the great work. Aloha,Kokua

Good nose riding is all in the rider! Sure I would put a deep spoon in my longboards nose but mostly because I think it looks cool. I’ve gotten my toes over all kinds of things and it’s your balance and board position in the wave that allows you to pull it off more than any special bottom contour. So I say spoon because it don’t hurt and it looks cool.

I agree Bill, looks cool, not hard to do, I reckon the hoax is having a big flat log, I need a board that I can ride, to be able to put in the right part of the wave, in the hook to nose ride, H.

Cheater fives don't count but i could cheat 5 on a 6'2'' flat bottom twin keel pretty easy on the right wave.

Ya wombat, I think wer'e talking about longboards, remember points for manouvres? the cheater 5 didn't get much , but they were all doing them, H.

Concave creates lift, tail flip and width and position in the pocket create downforce on the tail... I can NR a pig with flat to belly all day in a pocket where it's more fun to be anyway. The flats are for cutbacks.

I go for a long and mild concave to keep some lift, but avoid turning it into a snow plow. Concave is only good if you have flat nose rocker. Rocker + concave  = a nose that pushes watrer. Crap paddling, kills your speed when you walk forward. My best noseriders are pancakes. The worst noserider I have made was a fun template and bottom contour, but I left way too much beef in the top rail, so watch out for that one. Keep them soft and pinched to let water wrap onto the deck and counter balance your weight on the nose. Theres a good description in Wingnut’s Art of Longboarding about the principles of noseriding.
