When you shape a single concave to flat out of the tail do you
A) cut bottom rocker and fit concave within it
Or
B) cut bottom rocker, cut concave then alter rocker at tail to give flat and so increase bottom rocker
HELP
What I do is cut template, true up outline, put in bottom contours, then do the rails
You’re going to get a lot of opinions on this. I square up the blank, plan shape, foil the board and get the bottom rocker where I want it at the rails and nice and flat, side to side, then I do the concave(s) (or belly or vee), then deck contour, then rails, then fine sand the entire board, then drink beer, then other stuff.
Better to put concave in late rather than early . You’d be surprised at how it changes while your are turning rails etc. I prefer (with the exception of Vee) too put in any concave(single or double) just previous to finish sanding and screen.
Yeah I think I do most of that but how to get the flat out of the tail?
If I cut concave right to tail then flatten tail I get more tail rocker.
If I cut concave so it fades to flat at tail I end up with the rocker I cut but straighter thou middle of board.
Which way is “best”?
I cut the stringer rocker first, then adjust the rail rocker to give me the contour I want
