I searched a bit and didn't come across anything that helped.
I have a set of future twin fins that I was thinking of modifying to fit FCS plugs because I have a few "fish type" boards with fcs fusions and no lnger have any future's equipped boards. It seems to me that futures puts much more cant into their fins.
If I leave the extra cant in and cut the tabs to fit fcs plugs how will that affect the ride? I wanted to try a board as a twin plus trailer without spending too much $$
Has anyone done a similar conversion? Is this a bad idea ?
FCS has the cant in the box. modifying them to fit would creat too much cant and too much lift on your rail I'd think. It really depends on how much cant is in the boxes. If there isn't that much in the boxes, then you might be able to do it.mabe try to build your own???
Just go on Ebay and buy a set. Not worth the bull$#!t. You'll ruin a good set of Futures that you could sell on Ebay. For what? to save 10 or 20 bucks? Get a paper route.
What I meant by that was that FCS fusions have 5 deg and 9 deg cants in the box to accomodate desired cants or different bottom contours for rail fins. and, yes, they can still be adjusted slightly by the glasser, which is a good point because they will most likely be different that the 5 or 9 written at the bottom of the box.
Jimithesaint,
You can build some wooden fins very cheap, and experiment with several different fins for the price of one at the store.
Howzit astevens, I have not worked with the Fusionsso I can't comment on them. I do wonder why FCS would put any cant since what if I wanted a 3 degree cant, guess I would have to have to turn the plugs in the other direction. Aloha,Kokua
FCS Fussion plugs come 0, 5, and 9 degrees. Unfortunately this doesn’t cover fine tunning at say 2 or 3 degrees or 7 degrees.
It sure would be nice to have 2 and 7 degree boxes.
Even though plugs can be set at pretty much any cant angle one might desire I much prefer the Fussion to the single plug because of the the structural integrity if offers.
I’ve yet to find a good way to set a 5 degree or 0 degree fussion box at 2 degrees or a 9 degree box at 7 degrees and have it turn out well. It sure would be nice if I could as I very much prefer both grub screws seating the fin tabs for twinzer set ups to be on the same side of the finas this gives better strength and security to fin flex.
If anyone has any grand ideas about how this might be done I’m up for your perspective.
Regarding changing Future fin tabs to FCS, Future boxes take a slightly thicker tab than FCS. So one much cut this Future down to fit the FCS system. However as we all know the cant is built into Future fins in the tab so if the boxes are FCS boxes in the board already have cant the cant already in the Future tabs will be added to that of the fin box in the board.

Rich articulated exactly what I was concerned about.
Thanks for all the feedback - I was thinking it probably wouldn't turn out too well, sounds like that is the consensus, This is what happens when you get stuck inside in the snow for a long time ha ha ha
Wishing everyone a healthy and enjoyable new year!
Laying your fins over is killer it loosens up your board and if u lose drive increase the fin size.FCS fins should come with more cant options.A fin you should try is the Evolution www.evolutionxyz.com I rep these fins in Cali and Hawaii and they are the most advanced surfboard fin on the planet .Future has some nice templates and their fins come with more cant options unlike FCS archaic to say the least.
