Weekend before last, was road trip time for me, I had boards for Surfore and was going to the Christian Surfing Federation event at the Hook In Santa Cruz.
I had a huge Piece of Old Growth Redwood for Gene for use on a future project we have been collaborating on, traffic was moving so slow through LA that Gene and I were not able to meet up, so he suggested I drop the wood at Scott’s at Fins Foam and Fiberglass, Scott and Zeph were not available to take the call, so i had to move on to plan B.
My road trip co-participant said that he knew where we could leave the wood, he drove over to John Burgie at Parole Boards, as he had been there to apply as a sander. We all met and the stories started churning, well John pulled out and old Weber he had stripped and reconditioned, the photos were up here last year. It had a series of overlapping curved stringers, but that wasn’t the clincher, he pulled another off the top rack with the same stringer figuration, he had plotted it out and hand sawn for all the sticks, very, very great job of using American ingenuity to put together another piece of surfing art.
