crossing the fish crossroads

Well I’ve shaped the standard thrusters. Gone through the singles fins 6’3" 6’5" and 7’ 3" Now it’s time for the old school fish. I’ve made a 6’3" high performance fish but that’s a whole different animal. I appreciate some rocker numbers for a 6’0" old school twin fin fish. plan on using the 6’2’“c and ordering it with a 4” nose rocker and cutting it down two inches. I’m going to leave the tail rocker natural at just under two inches. (I guess the question is should I go flatter?) I looked around in the archives for about a half an hour and could’nt find a proper thread although I know it exist somewhere in there. Thanks in the advance to the lis, brom, skip, twin fin keel fish community.

Just get a normal stock 6’2" but get in supergreen to make up for the fact it’s the most weak-ass deck foam I’ve ever seen!! Put my foot in 3 already…

SR: This may help a bit with the visuals. http://www.swaylocks.com/resources/Detailed/519.html Herb is the man when it comes to fish numbers too! Take a look at the old 7’3" (Becker, with Eaton N Rocker) in Clark’s catalog. Lots of foam with plenty of room to adjust your rocker fore and aft. Tom S.

I heard the Magic trick was to use a longboard blank. http://www.catsail.com/archives/v3-i2/feature4.htm

I’ve heard about using longboard blanks to make a fish… a true classic fish. Keep the board real thick. Maybe add one modern element to the design, sharpen the rails near the tail.

USING A LONGBOARD BLANK WOULD NOT ONLY BE WAY MORE WORK BUT COST WAY MORE TOO. I DON’T SEE THE POINT. BAD RUMOUR. I’M SURE IT CAN BE DONE IN A PRODUCTION HOLDUP BUT LAME. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE STOCK 6’2"C SKIP FRY USES IT WITH CLASSIC WEIGHT(SAW IN HIS SHAPING ROOM)! WHEN YOU START INCHING UP PAST THE CLASSIC 5’8" YOU NEED SLIGHTLY MORE ROCKER OR YOU CAN PUMP DOWN THE LINE BUT YOUR CUTBACK WILL CIRCLE THE WHOLE BLOCK IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!

larry mabile used a 6’2 C for my 5’8 twin fin fish. i believe it was a supergreen weight as well. not sure as far as how he shortened it up… but id assume if you called him at PSG that he could clue you in. as far as glass is concerned… i had 6X4 on top, and 5 on the bottom, with a gloss + polish. hardly any heel dents at all on top, and ive had it for almost three months, with no dings to speak of. i love ittt. ill post pics once my digicam is up and running again…

I believe you can order that blank out of the catalog with the “Skip Frye” rocker. Whatever that is. And Steve Brom made me a 5’11” fish out of a longboard blank.

i have found that the 7’4’'R works well. you got to have specific rocker templates to make it right though. and that part was (and still is) ongoing for me. hope that helps.

I use the 7’4"R, 7’3", and the 6’9"A. Unless you are going to make something longer than 6’8" these will work well. SK

…It’s the Shaper !!! …Look inside the blank, what do you see, grasshopper?

Thanks swaylocker’s. I think I have a good idea on how I want to go now. I’ve used the 7’3" eaton on my single fin boards and It’s a great blank. But If I remember right the 7’3" is about $30 bucks more then a 6’2"c and at 150lbs I don’t need the extra foam . So a super green 6’2"c with a lowered rocker is where I’ll start. Herb, give me a couple of weeks and we’ll see if I can snatch the pebble from your hand. Ps. Herb, the annual Wind and Sea board fishing tournament in La Jolla is coming up next month. I believe on July 27 but I would double check that date to be sure. Anyone with a longboard, fishing pole, taste for adventure and thirst for beer should enter. Last years winner scooped a 20+ lbs white sea bass. Check out the cool pics from last years tournament. Boardfishing.com http://www.boardfishing.com

PPS. That date for the boardfishing tournament is July 20th not july 27th. http://www.boardfishing.com

…Thanks for thinking about me,maybe I’ll be able to make it this time.Hey Sean Mac,howz about it?You game?Herb
