current projects everyone?

i was wondering what everyones current personal project was; be it pushing the design limits or what have you. right now i am finishing up a 5’10 single fin, and about to start on a Tom Blake style hollow wooden hull-type board.

Hadn’t been able to get wet for a long time til yesterday. Went out in the overhead storm swell on my funboard on the upper Texas coast. Totally out of shape. Surf was GREAT, I sucked. Now I’m designing a 9-6 epoxy allround longboard. Next time I’m in over my head, I’ll do it with the rest of my kind, on a longboard.

im about to start my first board. its going to be 6’8". i cant wait. so excited.

Last Friday my next plannd project was going to be a 7’6" hybrid, but by Saturday it had somehow turned into a '74 VW bus. Go figure.

A surfboard factory.I will also have shaping room rentals or painting booths avalible hopefully by the first of next year.Herb.

Custom made surfmats for individuals in California, Australia, Japan, and phase 2 of an inflatable surfboard project for a Hawaiian businessman. Phase 1 has been a moderately successful, w/single polyurethane keel fin, 8`-6" @ 4 lbs. 3 oz.

Where,by chance, wouldthat be located? (general geographic area, not exact street address). I always thought that shaping seminars – with rental rooms for shaping and glassing would be a great business idea – not really as a big money-maker but sort of a self sustaining operation.

Retrofitting a Kawasaki jet ski with a new sand-tire dolly and pvc board rack as my new beach launchable surfboat. There are so many places just around the corner from where the road ends!

A 5’10" triple concave swallowtail, a 7’10" swallowtail big guy thruster, a 7’0" triple concave swallow, and rigging up my shaping room so the planer cord isn’t in my way constantly!

i was wondering what everyones current personal project was; be it pushing > the design limits or what have you. right now i am finishing up a 5’10 > single fin, and about to start on a Tom Blake style hollow wooden > hull-type board. (for a friend) A 6’2" rounded pin mush machine, from a 6’2"C. 14" x 20" x 15" - 2 5/8" thick. Low entry rocker 2 1/4" tail rocker with double concave. triple 4 glass.

Setting up a shop in the shed in the backyard. the shed is 10x14… just big enough - if I can keep the bikes and lawnmower and shovels and bags of fertilizer out of the way! The racks stand ready in the corner. The fold-away woodworking bench (w/vice & dogs) is set up. The partially shaped blank is still in my friends garage… 6’8" twin/fish - soon to come over. And the first phase of the hutch I’m attempting to build is leaning up against the wall. I’d better get the shop-vac in there - almost lost all the lawn furniture to the dust last night. (my little after-work world… so far my wife is happy for me even though I’ve been in there until about 11 on a few nights recently).>>> A 5’10" triple concave swallowtail, a 7’10" swallowtail big guy > thruster, a 7’0" triple concave swallow, and rigging up my shaping > room so the planer cord isn’t in my way constantly!

I just finished a 6 foot fish and my next project is to learn to surf the damn thing without stepping off the back!

i was wondering what everyones current personal project was< … …i’m trying to get this v bottom into production. i’m pretty excited about my 8’8", it’s a fun board. making myself a 9’V for longer lines. i’m spending most of my time driving, boxing, doing assorted glass work, talking on the phone, doing website stuff, sitting, thinking, spinning my wheels, and checking out swaylocks … with a little shaping and surfing thrown in. gene http://www.cooperfishsurfboards.com/galv2.html

Wow!!!Gene you really got me salivating on your two boards in the Pic post. A few weeks ago, there was a golden yellow tint, top and bottom Cooper Fish at Swami’s. As usual the whole concept was delicious, shape, workmanship. It is great to see the work of other concienious craftsmen out there. I reality there are not many who care or have the true ability to be elevated to master craftsman. But Gene has all of the above, kudos. It doesn’t come easy, nor overnight. A few months ago some one posted on what were the chances of “making it” as a shaper. By the time you realize that goal, your hair will have receeded and changed color, your kids will be as tall as you and there is a good chance you won’t have the same wife!

I don’t know why, but every time I see a cooperfish board my pants get tight. What’s up with that? Gene rules.

Outstanding craftsmanship. I stumbled on a used Cooperfish down in San Diego County last summer, a Device I believe. The kid in the shop thought I was a whacko I’m sure. I spent the better part of an hour studying that board. I could imagine that the intial sessions on a freshly polished board are filled with some thoughts of sacrificing the body to protect the board in a tight situation. The V-bottom project looks like a lot of fun! Tom

I’ve just finished two boards, one of which was my own. Between shapes now and my thoughts are to focus on the UV Curing Box and get that ready for winter lams. I have a restoration project that I’m over the hump on and need to finish. It is a 7’6" Claude Codgen shaped round pin gun, Sunshine label. Classic '70’s lines with beak nose. The glass job is the key here. It has a full deck airbrush mural of the “Forgotten Island of Santosha” era, a dark maroon “eggplant” bottom to top opaque lam and some very good white pinline work. As I get it reglossed and ready I hope to post a pic in the “Classics” sections. The owner will probably hang it on display in his home office. I had the misfortune of trusting my 9’4" Hornet, purchased used in Pac Beach, to the hands of AA Baggage handlers. They did a fine job removing the fin. Stellar, in fact. Now the weather is too cold here in Brooklyn for resin to cure. I have to find a heated space somewhere and start ginding it smooth and trying my luck mixing tint to match that beautiful aqua Gene came up with. Gene you are a master. I wish I had a fleet of Cooperfish!! I’d like to try a Comet some day and maybe even shape one!!

Just finishing up an 8’6", 18x23x15, 7" basswood/mahogany square tail, flat bottom. Going to try and hot coat it this weekend before it gets to cold out here in South Jersey. Going down to Virginia Beach this weekend to pick up a 9’1"Y blank for my next board.
