custom pop-outs?

SO many of my surfing buddies are buying surftech pop-outs and raving about them. Do any of you think that the tuf-lite technology will one day become more accessible to the average joe shaper? In other words, isn’t it just a matter of time before you’ll be able to order a custom “pop-out”?? Kirk

"…isn’t it just a matter of time before you’ll be able to order a custom “pop-out”??>>> Kirk Most definitely! Just as soon as faithful surfer consumers have finally dumbed-down far enough to swallow the idea of mass-produced “customs”.

My question should have read, “…isn’t it just a matter of time before you’ll be able to order a custom board that utilizes the surftech (tuflite) technology?” Kirk

My question should have read, “…isn’t it just a matter of time > before you’ll be able to order a custom board that utilizes the surftech > (tuflite) technology?”>>> Kirk A big “NO” as long as the boards are molded all you will get is what they make. #1 reason is cost to make molds… #2 they will have to be built in China so you think you wait now for a custom. #3 As consumers learn about the health issues involved with Epoxy i think less will buy into POP OUTS… I have a few friends that liked them but are ordering new boards from me. There boards are starting to fall apart a little bit more each day. The big problem is getting someone to repair them… Because of the epoxy i don’t fix them as well as i do the standard poly custom… As my friend said his plug is pulling out he has a bunch of small holes all over the nose and tail. The board has been surfed hard and held up better then most boards. But for the seasoned surfer nothing really beats the feel of a new custom built board. A Pool Toy will never replace a real surfboard… They have no Soul it’s that easy. Please don’t get me started… http://surfnwsc.com

My question should have read, “…isn’t it just a matter of time > before you’ll be able to order a custom board that utilizes the surftech > (tuflite) technology?”>>> Kirk Kirk, This the only thing Pop Out on this technology is the core. You can make these boards in your garage just like every custom windsurf builder has done in the pacific northwest for years. You can even order a video on how to make them thru www.fiberglasssupply.com You will get killed on labor. Surfers are cheaper than windsurfers. The Urethane spray they use is very hazardous. PVC Foam ain’t cheap and is hazardous to manufacture. You don’t have any Taiwanese labor available to make it cost effective. There are plenty of strenght and quality issues with these type of board. Besides, who cares. Do your self a favor and concentrate on custom and don’t try to compete with gimicks and deep pockets. Focus on true core surfers. Most the guys buying these boards will be soon enough back playing golf or squash or whatever these types of people do for fun.
