Cut lap question...

I am thinking about trying my first cut lap. Seems I could get a cleaner look at the rails. If I combine this with an acid splash ( why not?) and some of the resin is opaque how do I know where my tape is under the opaque glass and resin so that I can cut along the tape edge? With a transparent resin tint I can see that there would be no real problem. What is the solution?

you can carefully pull the tape up and cut the lap across the board rather than down toward it…or you can layer the tape so that it leaves a bump under the lap.

Usually you can still see the tape a little. In extreme cases, we’ve had to use a bright flashlight from beneath the board in a darkened room. We normally scribe the cutline with a razor and come back a second time for the peel/cut. The key here is to pull pretty hard on the pulled up part. Comes out way cleaner…
