cut laps

i just want to know if someone can explain cut lapping…? ive done the free lap thing but since i cant seem to cut straight with my scissors, it turns out sloppy on the laps, maybe id have better luch with cut lap if i understood the process exactly… thanks in advance because i know its very simple to plenty of you , but i just sont know any details.

I sure there is alot in the archives but this is how I do it. Make a rail tool, check archives, and make a line about an inch in from the rail. Then take masking tape, I use the 1 1/2" blue tape, and put the tape around the inside of the line you made. I do free laps for the bottom laminate, 1 layer 6oz. I do 2 layers of 6oz on the top. First layer I cut to just slightly overlap the laminate from the bottom that is wrapped around the rail. The 2nd or top layer I cut so it goes over, just slightly, the tape that is on the bottom of the board. Wet out both layers together, when you wet out the laps, wet them out so they go over about a 1/2" onto the tape but not onto the exposed foam on the farside of the tape. When the resin cures enough to turn the board over, flip it and with a sharp razor knife cut along the tape line. Then pull the tape. I hope this made sense, good luck, Frank.
