Cutting down a 25 year old board

Is it even worth it? Tore the fin box and a generous amount of glass out of the arse of a beloved 8’6" BC singlefin, and I thought about finally retiring her, but a friend gave the notion that maybe I should cut it down and craft something smaller, which I’ve been wanting. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Admonitions? Thanks!

if you got the time and the tools then i say go for it just take lots of pics so we can see how it works out for you

good luck

Probably plenty of foam left to make any number of smaller boards or a couple belly boards or a big pile of handplanes or you could donate the hulk to Enjoy and they'll take it and do just that.

Anything to keep it out of the dump.

Ok, thanks for the encouragement, I will post pics of progress. Mahalo!

I say cut out (dremel) a large area of glass around the fin box then router out the damaged foam. Glue in a new hunk of foam, re-cut out new  fin box, replace, re-glass and get back in the water. Magic boards are hard to come by.

if the repair is big job and you dont care if the board is transformed and lost from its original self, then go for it, especially if you want something smaller, but it’s most likely gunna be heavy and not like a brand newy…but its a hell ova lot of fun creating something different from what you have, I am sure there’s plenty of options…post some pics of it and I am sure there’ll be a stack of suggestions …
