I think I’ve asked before but is there a paypal? I live on the other side of the planet, we don’t use checks here and my euro’s probably would just be useless to the man. So if someone has a paypal I can wire to or will PM me banking details for bank transfers I would be happy to help da bra in need.

I was going to ask the same: Paypal will make things easier from outside USA.
I know Dale has a Paypal account, so maybe using that Paypal account would be a good solution.
My wife and I have experienced times of abundance, as well as times of hardship. We used to have health insurance and modest savings. How quickly things we regard as secure can sprout wings and fly away in the storms of life.
It’s something I will never understand about the US, so rich and powerful but no cover-all health service. It saddens me. I just hope in Europe we can hang on to cradle-to-grave care… heck, call me a socialist, I believe in solidarity …
Now someone give us int’l folks a paypal or bank detail!!
"Re: Health Insurance… Yeah, follow your dream, but cover your bases…It’s a reality that can’t be ignored… "
Health insurance is crucial these days even if it is a horrible rip-off etc. Dale is the only person in the world currently doing the labor intensive process of making them. So when you order, remember that it is his source of livelihood and support for his family and don’t put him on the spot by asking for a discount or a “bro deal”. His margin isn’t that big! A mat would be a super deal at twice the asking price.

People who haven’t lived and used the U.S. health care system really can’t believe it…and many who have still can’t fathom the quirks and pitfalls. The entire U.S. Government, for one entity…
#1. No U.S. citizen so much as has the right to buy health insurance. Any health insurance company can refuse to sell for any reason. They call them pre-existing conditions usually…things like asthma, skin conditions, lifestyle choices, right up through serious injruy and illness.
Think I’m kidding? I read something interesting this week. At U.S. grocery stores owned by major corporations you can get big discounts by registering and then entering your phone number or using a “membership card” at the point of purchase. This obviously tracks your purchases, ostensibly to allow the stores to be stocked with popular items. But they also apparently make this information available for sale to other businesses. One industry which apparently has special interest is the insurance industry, which can purchase the details of your buying habits quite legally. Think about that one the next time you buy a 12 pack, ice cream, full-strength butter, red meat…
Bet they love people who work around surfboard construction, right?
#2. Buying a health policy for “catastrophic care” can easily cost $10,000-15,000 a year (for a family) with hospitalization deductables of similar size, not to mention paying all other the basic medical costs out of pocket.
The system is set up for deep pocket insurance policies to make up for underinsured (medicare or social security or welfare)…the system is set up for any honest person to declare bankruptcy and walk away from debts, which honest people aren’t really inclined to do. Meanwhile the pigs who don’t care just cruise on.
The Secret Way of the Surfer: Spouses who work at places which offer insurance. That is but one way of few available, and not an answer, but it explains how a lot of us get by.
After two major surgeries my individual health insurance policy increased to $750.00 / month. I kept it for a couple of years but had to let it go. The pre-existing conditions won’t allow insurance anytime soon.
yes it does seem very strange on this side of the Atlantic that one’s health and health of your children is in the hands of Private Institutions who’s main priority is to profit margins .without our National Health my daughters life would have been very very different.I too wonder if there is a way to send money into the fund from uk electronically or maybe best thing is an old fashioned money order money .Suggestions welcome

America has a strange and primitive culture, filled with savagry and violence towards its citizens. Ah well, guess it’s cause we’re human.
I’m writing this without Dale’s permision, so i hope he dosen’t mind but i’m doing it because i know he wont…
We talked earlier on this thread that having a Paypal option for us out of USA would make it easier and since i ordered a Surfmat some time back i knew i had Dale’s Paypal ID somewhere, and finaly i found it.
So i think, and hope, that those of you who are far from the USA, and want to help, will be able to use the paypal system. I know Paypal will charge a fee to Dale with every payment received but i still think is the best/easiest method from this side of the planet.
Maybe if dale received $0.01 for each smile produced by one of his Surfmats, he’d be rich now!
Well, we could get into all kinds of political arguments not really surfing related, but, in general private institutions that are forced to compete vigorously usually produce the best product. Government programs produce mediorce programs at best that do a poor job of serving the people they are supposed to help and cost a fortune. Not to mention the loss of freedom and choice when the only choice is the government program. Socialism looks good on paper, but does not work very well in practice. Thats how I see it, anyway. Take it for what you think it’s worth. Mike

And therein lies the failure of the U.S. “health care system”…private institutions are protected by law (m.o.n.e.y.) from having to compete at all…
