What do you guys normally do when you order a box of blanks and one comes damaged?
Let's say hypothetically you ordered a 6'8" to shape a 6'6" for a customer (along with a few boxes worth of different sized blanks). Everything arrives fine with no damage to the box, but the 6'8" had a gash almost through the nose that would prevent you from shaping anything more than say a 6'4" from the blank. Based on the way they were packed there appears to be no way that the damage could have happened in transit. It's likely whoever packed the box either didn't notice or didn't care. I would call the blank a second based on my knowledge. Yeah the blank is still usable with some extra work shaping, but not for "close tolerance" shaping. What do you normally do?
If the box doesn't show a puncture, and the blank was damaged prior to shipping, it should have been priced as a second, IMO. Good on you for not naming names and throwing them under the bus needlessly. Talk to your supplier and work something out.
Coincidentally this morning my first experience returning a blank to FGH here on Oahu… I had alread skinned the bottom but no problem for me to swap it out for a new one. There was a twist in the stringer that I didn’t see until I had laid out my template. For a backyarder like me it was easy to miss it while eyeballing at the warehouse - the deck was straight but on the bottom it bent to the left about a 1/4" and only in the last foot of the nose rocker. I thought I was going crazy when marking out my template, it would not match the nose/mid/tail marks on the flip side!
Past few years about 50 of my 70 boards I’ve built have been these US Blanks Red; One slightly crooked stringer seems to me a pretty good run with consistently straight ones, stoked on the overall quality of US Blanks

Yep definitely not naming names. The company has always provided good service and they are good people. It's just the first time this has happened to me and I was wondering what is the standard or accepted practice. They've already followed up with me and I'm thinking they will find a way to make good. I should find out tomorrow.
