A guy found this board in
a barn in the middle of Georgia. He does not surf, knows nothing about boards. This is the logo. It’s on a twin fin shape that looks like roughly 1975 or so. Swallow tail sting, no leash plug.
Anyone familiar with this label?
So where does the Dan Flecky part come from?? Can’t read that pencil from the pic. Would like to see it close up. Brothers Dan and Pat. Dan was a very good Santa Ana surfer who started the sunglass company “Black Flys”. There were occasional pics in the magazines of him surfing Santa Ana Rivermouth on big swells. His brother Pat Flecky was the shaper. Don’t know that Dan ever shaped. Pat tried different labels over the years. This may have been one. He was considered a Carlsbad/O’side local for many years. Wound up on the Central Coast of California. RIP. General info. Can’t be specific as I didn’t know him until he moved North.
The label looks like it says Carlsbad, so that fits.
I mistakenly said Dan, but it’s actually Pat. Here is the sig.
Artz who used to post here on Sways knows more about Pat’s So. Cal. Life as I belief he knew Pat pretty well back then. Pat did “Flying Flecky” boards. He tried a run of Jack Haley Surfboards with Jacks brother Mike approving. That didn’t last because Jack’s son objected. I believe if he had found a niche in one locale and attempted to market his own name he would have been successful. In the early 2000’s when I knew him I had my own problems. He was a good shaper. I had a little factory at the time. If I had put some money and effort behind him he might of done well. What he needed was someone to bank roll and market him. He also needed more blanks than he could shape, so he would stay busy and not dwell on the past.
If you search the archives, you may find further info on Pat Flecky.
