Has anyone tried glueing eps or xps foam with Dap plastic resin glue? It is a ureaformaldehyde resin. I am trying to save the $25 for a test batch just to find that it desolves the foam. Thanks, Joe
Joe: I have used Sikaflex-291 and 3M Fast Cure 5200 to glue up eps with no problems. They are expensive but much less than $25. They are flexible adhesive sealants. If you are looking for something rigid, I believe both companies have less flexible compounds for marine use. Good luck. Patrick
So essentially you could take 2 pieces of 2 inch thich styrofoam and glue them together like a sandwich to make a 4 inch thick blank and then cut it length wise add a stringer with the rocker cut in and you have an eps blank? http://www.surfboardglassing.com
Surflab; Sorry for not being specfic: I used the above products for gluing foam bulkheads on a boat. Never have used them to make a blank. Patrick
Thanks Patrick, The Dap resin is not expensive. $25 is for a gallon but I didn’t know if would melt the foam. I am trying get around the long drying time of Elmers’ type glue. Flexible glue would be fine if is sandable. Thanks, Joe
Joe; If the DAP glue is $25/gal. then it is probably a better buy than the tubes of the ones I mentioned. Perhaps you could find a tube of DAP to do a test run. Also, you might want to check out the thread above about glue. It might be relevent to your project. Good luck. Patrick
I’m not sure if this thread was split up or not. Are you wanting to glue up stringers?? Why not use epoxy? http://www.hdxsurfboards.com
Jeff I am going to glue some sheets of construction insulation together. Epoxy would probably be best. Just thought I would give this Dap/Weldwood stuff a try. Thanks, Joe
