daz's new toy.....

my mate daz

bought himself a 6’6 ‘Firewire’ the other day. [the 'alternator, i think it’s called , from memory ]

i hope to get photos [and vid of it being surfed , too] , once the weather co-operates…*

it was great to see them in the shops , FINALLY !

cheers

ben

  • of course , i’m also hoping to get a couple of waves on it , myself …

other measurements …

12 " nose

15 1/2 " [!!] tail

6" pod

3 1/2 from back of back fin to tail

11" from back of side fin

PC7 fins 4 1/2" base , 4 3/4" depth, c 1 3/4" rake

…i’m hoping for saturday , to film him riding it !

cheers

ben

by the way …

two things intrigued me [do they write the same blurb on the american firewires , i wonder ??]

it said

“order them the same dimensions as your usual boards”

and

"NEVER adjust the plug … "

… well, what happens when it is put in an aeroplane , won’t it blow apart ? [pardon my ignorance , i just wondered about pressure buildup , is all ?]

 cheers

update

last week i video’d daz in head high …mainly lefts…

[hopefully , if / when it’s copied to dvd , i can sort out some frame grabs ??]

meanwhile , here’s some shots of the fin setups he tried , over two different surfs …

[the waves were a LOT smaller , and onshore , unfortunately , for the second surf , so i whacked in a small template back H-2 , but really he could have done with three small ones that day !! …he has lost 5kgs weight , now , by the way ]

Looks like those PC-7’s are falling out.

yep…well observed , mate !

i think daz just needed to contain his over-enthusiasm to try out the new toy , long enough to actually focus on getting the fins in flush first !

[i know the feeling !]

Hi Ben -

At least two shops near me carry Firewires.

It is my understanding that Firewire went with a breathable/waterproof membrane type of vent that requires no maintenance. Theoretically, it lets air out but doesn’t let water in.

It is also my understanding that the jury is still out regarding membrane durability and lifespan.

When questioned, a salesman said that after several surfs his demo started developing salt crust at the vent and he claimed to be able to suck water out of it.

It might be smart to monitor the vent for any signs of moisture intrusion.

I don’t remember seeing script on the rail on boards I saw in the shops locally.

G’day Ben,

What was Daz’s verdict on the performance ?, comfortable straight away or a bit of getting used to ?

How is the weight ?

cheers

Daren

hi daz2 !

it “seemed heavier” than his surftechs

he bogged rail [something i’ve never seen him do before !!] on two forehand cutties

he accelerated OUT of a backhand cuttie like i have never seen him do before

he said

"it might take a few surfs to get used to " , but he couldn’t put his finger on if it was

the flex thing ,

the fins ,

the rails ,

the waves ,

or him .

He was certainly surfing looser and faster than i’ve seen him surf before , though. [?? the new improved lighter weight dazza??]

…anyway , [hopefully ] to be continued … [when the winds , video, his work schedule co-operate]

and , cheers for asking , Daz !

 ben

OK, this is a weird coincidence, I just picked this exact board (6’6" alternator, #7953) up 2nd hand from cordingly the other week. Obviously Daz didn’t like it… any reason why? seems to go fine to me but yet to get some decent surf to really know… but currently happy to get a discount FW

I chose it cause I’ve been on Berts boards (short and long) for the last few years and they are SO WELL MADE but availability became a nightmare so last purchase was a custom PU which although surfed well, just creased and then snapped after a few months…so annoying after enjoying sunova quality…so decided to go for FW. I know Bert is now nothing to do with FW anymore but this board still just felt really nicely made (even if it is a machine job), way nicer than the plastic ones…anyway here’s hoping it stands up for a year or so…

21st century for sale

cheap…

…ambrose…

get your orders in soon

as supplies will be short.

welcome mate !!

are you in scarbs too, by any chance ?!

…yep ,

daz went for the 6’4 x 19 x 2 3/8" model instead

he felt the 6’6 was too wide and too thick

…although ,

if you want to drop around sometime ,

i can show you footage of him riding your board , if you like ?

cheers

ben
