DBL 6 OR 6/4

I have done several longboards over the past few months. I have always done two layers of 6 oz cloth on the deck. This has made for a strong board. I am getting ready to do some mini-longboards and wanted to go with at 6/4 combination. Will I be regretting this move, in respect to durability and longevity? I would prefer not to do a deck patch for strength. Any ideas is appreciated.

Any ideas is appreciated…With a good lam a 4/6 deck should be good enough, provided you aren’t building them for a heavy footed surfer…if you are here’s a tip use 4oz. “s” glass under 6oz. “e” glass.I have a friend that I build boards for regulary that weighs in @ 220lbs.He typcially will order a 6ft. fish or has bought middies from me.He is a very gifted surfer, old school to the max!The problem for me is he is very heavy footed, and would bring back the boards with ripped out fins,and/or cave-d in decks…the “s” glass trick ended this.Herb…p.s. I also add a layer of “s” glass under the rope and primary glass on the fins.

The 6-4 combo is much better strength to weight. You put the 4 on top so it takes less resin on the hot coat. The 6-6 is stronger, but the ratio is off. aloha
