My next board has completed all the design parts but one. It’s going to be an egg-ish shape 8’2"x14.8"x22.25"x18" out of EPS-epoxy. Rounded-pin tail. I’m going after hollow beach breaks with this board, but I want forgiving rails. Lower rail blank cut will be .9"R yeilding 1"… pretty soft. Bottom flat entry through .5" gap “V” (.25"/side). Rocker: 5.5"N, 3.1"T I usually do big fabric inlays, but I want this board to be light. I’m just putting two striped tapa inlays on the nose. An 8" center fin box will go on. I have 2 O’Fishl side bite boxes, but can’t decide whether to add them. Side bites and boxes add so much weight. Would the added weight be worth the added wall riding ability?
i think since you have a (just about)15" tail, that you will benefit from the side fins. we are talking ounces, right? i don’t have the experience that others on this BBS do, though. i’m curious to see the other opinions. the force be with you on this one, noodle!

Thanks guys. You’re probably right. I’ll add the side boxes because the tail is so wide. I’m making the board about 3.2" thick. With the added thickness and 22.25" width, I hope it’ll float well and take off quickly. The wide board width almost requires a wide tail, short of sharpening the stern, or adding offset. I’m hoping to aviod both, in order to maintain beach-break handling characteristics. -Noodle>>> Those side bites may add some much needed drive and holding power. Good > Luck!
