Just glassed a 9’2’ this morning . using surfabout lam the board has a deck spray seemed to glass up fine then later when checked bubbles galore. used auto acrylic paint same as usual . where I live is very hot and dry so didn’t use a lot of mekp to kick off slowly then used a hotter mix to finish off.I am thinking not enough mekp . dud resin. maybe doesn’t like paint. however it delamed on rails. So that rules out paint. beats me.
Bubbles can be caused by a lot of things, but you can live with them. However, the failure of the cloth to stick to the rails will stop you from continuing. This could be due to overhandling of the board (or other contamination), not getting the foamdust out of the pores, or lam technique. Cut away the unbonded cloth (razor blade, exacto, dremel), wipe with acetone on a clean paper towel (one swipe, don’t rub), and blow off the area. Laminate patches of cloth over the bare spots with a slightly hotter mix. If it still won’t bond with the foam, the blank is a write-off.
Thanks for the advice. I was talking to the guy’s that I get my resin from and after explaning my process he assured me it was because I hadn’t put enough mekp to kick off the chemical reaction, because it is so hot and dry here I usually use enough mekp to just kick it off then hit it with a much hotter mix to finish to set it hard.
