i have searched but can’t seem to find what I am looking for. I am hoping to do a resin tint with deck patch on this board. Something like the picture below.
do I just lam the bottom and then do the deck with fin patch as if doing 2 full layers of glass?
Yes, but use volan cloth and a few drops of green or blue tint. Your tape laps need to be clean and uniform. Sometimes I tape off the deck patch, glass it first, make the cleans cut and glass over that. I sometimes I’ll just use volan for the bottom and deck patch and use regular glass for the deck either 6 or 4 oz. The more layers of volan you use the darker the overlaps will get. This is really old school stuff that comes out beautiful if properly executed.
The patch is lapped around the rails, but if your using tint you probably wont get that drastic of an effect if you lam the deck and patch at the same time.
Laming the patch and deck seperate will give a better seperation of colors.
Also, if using tint you will need to make sure that you use the same ratio of tint to resin on all of the board or else you will not end up with a board that looks like the picture.
I personaly cant see orange tint looking very good if it is super light, which it will need to be or else your laps will just look like dark bands and not orange tint… but I am also not much a fan of orange in gereral so who knows.
Post some pics when your done. Maybe you can prove me wrong.
