Well, I thought “In God’s Hands” was over the top melodrama…smarter people than me started saying and writing real nice things about “Big Wednesday” after that one came out…highlight was the big screen tow-in footage, this being pre-Brown clan resurrection. “Blue Crush” wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting (“Win Kate’s Bikini!”), but the real-life repercussions outdid my nightmares.

Once the surf media starts getting the ad money the process of legitimizing any product or tie-in will take place. “Huey Cohen Surfboards” will be sponsoring the following U.S. Open of Surfing, and the t-shirts will be pumped out of every Target store in America. “Free Huey” bumper stickers on every Sport Cute, Volvo wagon, and surf Suburban in California…yes, too good to be true! And coming soon to your neighborhood…

yes , the very same ben stiller who teamed up with donovan frankenreiter in “fair bits” , doing a pretty funny piss take of grizzled old american “locals” talking themselves up in the carpark , and putting shit on everyone who walks past with a surfboard under their arm , aboout to actually GO surfing , rather than just talking about it .
if you can get hold of “fair bits” [hire it , maybe?] , it’s worth watching just to see that segment , I reckon .
[warning : people need to have a bit of a sense of humour , though , to really appreciate it]

THAT , on the big screen , STILL gives me goosebumps , just THINKING about that opening aerial shot of a tow-in …AMAAAAZING footage , wave , and GUTS !
well, I never saw “surf nazis must die !!” [sniff sniff] , but I figure this one , if set at oh , say… huntington beach , during the OP pro [or whatever it’s called nowadays …‘U.S. Open’ ,I guess ? ] would probably “take it to the next level” , perhaps ?
Hey in all honesty…Herbie Fletcher’s Wave Warrors III was a turning point vid/movie from old world surfdom into the future as we now know it to be.I can’t say enough good about this late 80’s surf flick.
