delamination

i left my 5 month old board on a 90deg day wax side down for 8 hours, then flipped it over(wax up) for 5 min.i think it delaminated while i was looking at it. the delam.is 8"x5" about two feet from the tail. do i need to fix this? does this usually spread?

Delam could be from air pressure when the board heated up. The area sounds like where your back foot hits while standing, which could weaken the bond between glass and foam. It should be fixed, because the constant flexing of the glass can spread the damage. The usual repair involves cutting out the delamed area and reglassing.

its not the spot i put my foot. i see boards in the sun alot and was alittle suprised this happened to a new board.

YES IT’S FIXABLE AND IT’S ABOUT $40.+. BUT, FIRST OF ALL 5 MONTHS OLD IS NOT A NEW BOARD!! I SURE WISH MY TEAM GUYS COULD KEEP A BOARD EVEN 3-4MO’S!! AND THAT’S WITH AN EXTRA DECK STOMP PATCH!! HEAT IS THE ENEMY SO THROW A TOWEL OVER IT OR SOMETHING!IT’S A EASY REPAIR BUT STILL NOT FOR A NOVICE, IF YOU WANT QUALITY GET IT DONE BY A PRO.

i know its not a new board,5 months is alittle early. i do surf alot, and i am tough on boards.
