When the surf wasn’t on, we used to skate all those places as well in the mid to late 70’s. So Mike Newlings still in Newport, a lovely guy. As for Twemlow, isn’t he surfing much these days? Thats a shame, he was good, although a pain in the !!!.

What about Andrew Hunter, is he still on the penisula? He was good fun. I spoke to Scott Lindley (by email) some 12 mnths ago, and see Tom C on the Central Coast (where I reside) on occasion, caught up with a bit of the gossip about who’s doing what. Cant say i miss the penisula these days, the central coast is great. National parks and always a wave somewhere, not to mention the best left this side of breakfast (yep I’m goofy)

is it the "5th symphony document " [?] that has this footage ?

if so, and it’s on DVD [?] , I’ll get it, ‘no doubt!’…

Mate youre missing nothing here, the crowds are bizarre and you find yourself listening to friggin’ merchant bankers and lawyers chatting in the line up. As soon as there’s any decent swell I’m up your way or points north. I used to see Hunter from time to time when I lived in Newport but not in the water and I don’t really know what he’s up to. I haven’t spoken to Tom or Nick for quite a while though I watched Nick surfing DY one day, hre paddled out just as I came in so I didn’t get to say G’day.

Tom, Nick, Derek and Mike Newling used to come down and surf DY Point quite often in the seventies and Tom used to surf it when he was a grom and getting his boards off Col Smith, so I go back a fair way with them.

if you haven’t already… “do yourself a favour”, and watch Derek ripping all these different boards in the video / dvd “litmus” …you won’t regret it !

With a first board like this, she must be one soul sister. Great shot!

Sorry chipfish, I don’t hsve the patience to watch surf videos anymore, I think I OD’d at some point in the past! As far as Derek goes I think I’d rather have my memories anyway…I used to love watching him when he was surfing those Hot Buttered single fins, probably around 77-78, so smooth, so fast, so stylish, so much imagination, definitely up there in my all time greats!
