Does anyone know the purpose or meaning behind the red and blue markings on Derek Hynd’s surfboards? From fish to section connectors, he seems to have these colors on the rails of all his boards. What’s the story?

No, he is trying to show is support for the USA with red white and blue colors. We will be getting a pro Iraq piece in the next editorial of surfer mag. NOT.

Derek lost an eye in the seventies I think.
So my guess it that it makes it a lot quicker / easier for him to see the edges of his board for take offs etc. Peripheral vision etc.
I often see Derek surfing locally - Newport Peak / + plus other spots ( Basin / Newport Pool ) in the locality. He still absolutely rips!!
Perhaps he’s learning his port and starboard, and one eye is colour blind.

the red- hot water
was to go on the left side
and the blue -cold water
was to go on the roit side
bearing up under the strain
another tech glitch
but what can you do.
in the movie
they will reverse the negative
to make the color scheme
conform to the international ad campagin
except in tthe ukraine
where the faucet handles are reversed
