So I just made up the template for my next board. Something of a disc shape.
Measurements of the beutiful women:
6’6" tall
18.5" wide
2.5" thick
Quad fin system
So, my dilemma is this; I don’t know what would work best concerning the bottom contours. I don’t know if I should go with a single concave into a double before it hits the fins, do a single concave all the way through, single just through the fins. No idea. So I thought I would post up and see what you guys thought would work best for this design and, if you would be so kind, why.
I posted up a pic of my template in the hopes that it might help, sorry it is so small.
i’m not going to say “redesign your outline” but it looks like you traced a snowboard to be honest. You may want to consider NOT going with such parallel rails. Also, for a discy shape, i’d go a couple inches wider at that length, but that’s just me.
I’m afraid I’d agree, obviously it depends what you want from the board but from what i could make from your picture the middle most of the board seems really straight. I’m not suggesting ripping off a copy of you favourite board but I’d have thought for a 1st board it might be worth copying at least elements of your template from something you know works. Bottom wise I don’t think there’s a lot wrong with flat to flat to flat, or subtle single to double, again look at a board you know works for you. It might help again keeping it simple.
I’m new at this, but I agree with the above – never seen a disc that long anywhere close to that skinny. Expect around 21" for something that size, based on what I’ve seen from Merrick et al.
For your early boards, flat bottom is the way to go!
The reason I was trying to keep the width down a bit is so that it would be easier for my girlfriend to carry. I am going to see exactly what size (width wize) she can carry comfortably to see if I can make it wider for her.
I was trying to keep the rails from being to straight so I will definetly have to revisit the template and redo the design.
To be honest, it looked like you were running out of room when you were drawing your outline, so you just drew the line straight down when you were about to hit the edge of wood or cardboard or whatever that is.
Then make your curve. Guessing is Guessing. Use some numbers and use your head. Adjust your wide point front of center 2 - 3 inches.
Do a single concave started 20" from the nose very settle like an 1/8" and fade to almost flat at the end don’t go to extreme if you don’t understand Hydrodyamics. Better yet there are some really good books on the subject you can read that can answer a lot of these kinds of questions?
Or you can just copy something with out thinking like most people?
6’6" x 18 1/2" is semi gun dims.
If you made a disc 5’6" 19" x 2 1/2" would make a bit more sense. Unless you have a really big girl friend?
How Tall is she? How much does she weight? How old is she? Does she surf already or is she just learning?
From there the design can begin. A Disc is a good first board or second if it’s shaped well.
Don’t waste material on the template you have presented. Start over re-think it and make a ridable surfboard and have fun doing it!
