diamond tail vs. round pin

ok, im shaping my second board and its gonna be an egg. dims are 6’8" x 21.75 x 2.75. nose is gonna be around 17.5". im making this board for steeper, bigger hollow beachbreaks (i.e. Black’s) so i can get in early and not have to work much to get down the line. flat rocker too, 3.5"-4" nose, 2" or so in the tail. I cant decide what to make the tail, diamond or round pin. wondering what the performance aspects are gonna be of both. i drew a diamondtail on the blank and it looks like it will have too much volume, maybe hard to put on a rail. anyone have experience with a board like this and want to give me some input on the tail shape or board in general? oh yeh, using becker 7’3" blank. pic is different tail templates.

Diamond turns shaper, can or cannot project depending on YOU and the board’s shape and rocker.

RoundPins lean over easy, draw long smooth lines.

Personal preference, who knows how you surf and how powerful you are?

i am a lanky guy, 5’10", 155 lbs. tall and thin. I am a down the line and in the pocket surfer. bottom turns and cutbacks are mostly when i’m using the rails.

Most of my surfing career (well over 20years 5 days a week), I was same height and about 137 lbs.

Still, preferred diamond tails over almost anything else, as you can punch your bottom turn to accelerate harder than any other tail, if you have the power.

Most of my front foot oriented trim and glide buds preferred rounded pins, so that’s what I made for them.

Me, always WPoint back, thick tails, thick boxy rails, fin waay back, lotsa fin.

To bank it over at bigger OBSF, I just narrowed the whole template!

Average 6’8"er, usually 18.25 wide at almost 3" thick.

Howzit Lee, I've had diamond tails on my boards since 1992 and love them, never was into pin tails on longboards but liked them on my shorties.Aloha,Kokua
