Different Types of Longboards

Hey all,

In my time of shaping I have only done shortboards in my shaping room.  But know I am moving onto shaping longboards and I have little knowledge of this type of board.  When I am aiming to recieve from this post is to be able to understand each type of longboard design, such as a “pig” and a “log” and a “performance” board.  I know each one has their own unique shape and capabilities, but the thing that I am unsure of is their total capabilities.  Questions I am looking for answers to are:

What are the different types of longboards out there?  and what are their capabilities in the water?

Does a type of longboard only have one perspective (such as noseriding)? or can a board have multiple perspectives?

How does length of the board effect the riding experience?

What type of board would be best for East Coast waves from Deleware to South Jeresey waves?

Share away! And if anyone has any questions about this thread and topic please ask away!  Looking for all the help I can receive!!

Perhaps you should add  , how long does it have to be to be a longboard ?

Might want to send a message to Jim Phillips. He has a DVD on shaping that just might explain a lot of the ins and outs of a Longboard.  Likea short board the most importent aspect is the rocker.  For beach break waves I happen to like a pig style board but currentley surfa HP LB with a 2 one set up.
