dimensions for a 5'8" retro fish?

I searched the archives and couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. I was thinking 5’8", 23" wide and 3" thick. It’s for a 5’8" tall, 145lb reasonably skilled longboarder. Retro fish with plywood keels. Thanks in advance!

In my opinion that board is gigantic for your size. I’m 6’2" about 165lbs and i ride a 5’6 by 22" and 2 and 7/8ths thick with a 17 inch nose and 17 1/2 inch tail with the tips about 13 1/2 inches apart and i personally think the board floats too much and if i could do it over again i would have probably gone 5’4.But, keep in mind i carried the thickness from nose to tail and have a completely flat deck with hard turned down rails. For your size i wouldnt go any bigger than 5’5 (max), depending on what you are used to surfing , i usually ride a 6’2 potatoe chip so riding my twin fish feels like paddleing a long board.

I’m all for wid eboards, but that also sounds too big for a 145lb rider…

There is a good Lis Fish template with measurements in the Surfboard Design and Construction book. see: http://jfmill.home.comcast.net/swaylocks/Surfboard_Design_and_Construction_1977.pdf

5’8 x 20 x 2 1/2" is heaps big enough if the person is only 5’8 and 145lbs.

[this is just my opinion and experience]

cheers mate !

That’s a small guy. Any of the above numbers will work well. But, he’s a reasonably skilled longboard rider. There’s gonna be a bit of adaptation necessary to move down to a board that short. It’s going to feel like he’s paddling a cork. You might want to go a bit longer, narrower, and thinner. 6 foot? 6-2? Just my .02. It all works. Mike
