I’ve been reading alot of messages from the past in this forum and the informations seems endless. This place is great for beginners like me. I’m in the process of researching everything for my first board. I’m planning on starting when I get back to college in Gainesville ( I live in Pensacola. Amy ways, my plan is to order the 7’3 X 24’’ X 3 3/8 egghaped blank from foam E-Z and to shape a 7’0-7’2 X 22’’ X 3’’ retro single fin (fin glassed onto board. I’m inspired by Joel Tudor and since I’m still researching, Does anyone have anymore advice on dimensions. What should I put in the searchengine to get more message posts. I don’t want people to repeat what they have said before. Also, any advice on good surfboard shaping videos.
try john carpers shaping, glassing and airbrush 101. they usually run about $25. also damacus productions has a video with jim phillips that posts on here thats a shaping video too.
Hi Matt, Lots in the archives–I’d suggest exploring the ‘all’ option for searching, and typing in what you’re looking for (single fin retro, dimensions for 7’2…etc). My first board was a similar design and I got everything I needed from the archives–except the muscle memory, which is infinitely more satisfying than sitting in front of the computer. I would suggest going the fin box route rather than the glass-on. It’s not difficult to install (plenty in the archives), and will give you more choices in terms of fin placement and designs. It won’t necessarily look like it was made in the seventies, but you will be able to ride it like it’s 2003. Have fun! Jamie
Thanks, that actually helps alot!
