Check this out. A guy brought me a delam to repair. Almost the whole deck was shot. I held on to it for several weeks and was about to call and tell him to forget it, I can’t do it. But I took it into my glassing shack and stared at it for a while. Then I put a diamond bit into my dremmel and starting at the rail lap, cut the entire deck glass off. (It was a volan board) By that time, I was commited to fixing the thing for sure… Lots of compressed foam so I tried to fill what I could and sand it even. The stringer was still too high so I sanded it down. Then did a two colour abstract inlay (8oz)on the deck. Then two layers wrapping the rail. (8oz-6oz) I charged quite a bit of $$ for the job but it was worth it. The board looked great. I had to put a 1/4" black pinline on the deck, which made the board look pretty retro. So…instead of doing the job as a ding repair, and ending up with ugly and unpredictable results, I did the extra work and feel pretty secure that it will last like a new board. And, the work was way easier than trying to cut and paste the darn delam! So now, That’s my program for major delams. It was almost kind of fun!
Sounds like a good job… Im sure your guy was very happy. Better then getting a big white bloch for a deck. Color adds allot. sandings a B*&%h tho huh? well after all day of grinding a way makes you wanna go surf. [smile] Have fun Fixin http://dirtyglassing.com
