I was clearing up after a productive evening of shaping when I banged my blank on the corner of my shaping racks, now i have a small (but deep - .5mm) dent in the bottom of the board! What should i do? I am nearly done with the shaping so not much foam i can take off to minimise the hole. Just when you think you have made a good one, more perfect than those before it, you go and dent it! Damn It!!!!
Saw this thread earlier but didn't comment because Keith was right on with the cure. Every glass shop I've been in over the last few years has a heat gun or blow dryer laying around for this exspress purpose. Nine times out of ten the heat will expand the foam up to its orignal level/position. Just put it on low heat and keep it moving. A blow dryer doesn't get as hot. But if you keep the heat gun moving it won't burn the foam. Spackle is fine for holes. If it's a dent try yo raise it with the heat gun or blow dryer first then use spackle only if you have to. I use lite weight spackle primarily for "worm holes" and deffects in the blank, but only as a last resort. If you do use spackle put it on your finger and dab lightly on the hole or dent. Dont use a spreader or putty knife. Do not spread the spackle to areas surrounding the hole/dent. Let it dry over night. Be sure that it is completly dry, Screen it very lightly. If you tint or paint the blank a spackled hole will be noticeable.
heat gun (or hair dryer if that’s what you can find). Be careful, not too hot or your problems will multiply.
fill the hole with dry wall spackle. simple and easy
What you need to do is steam the dent with the elec jug not the head gun as this will burn it, what the steam will do is expand the cells out again Peter
how big is your about 5mm?
if its that small
screen the whole rail twice on bothrails
that oughta bout do it
the more fix time you do
some times the more
ucked up you make it.
if its a smaller than estimate
just glass it and it will
naturally fill with a little gob
of glass fibre and excess resin
j g i
stands for just glass it.
…ambrose…
Thanks for the feedback, think might try a combination of both solutions. Hair dryer first then spakle! Cheers
…hair drier did not and do not work…
…spackle will yellowing different than the foam…
haa peter you are banging your head** against the wall ( mcknow all knows best**)
