Dings from shipping, i searched first, need repair strategy.

So I was stoked to hear my board came in today. When I went over to pick it up (group buy from a west coast shaper) I find out it was damaged in shipping. Basically one of the tips of the swallow tail needs rapairing and also the rail has some cracks. The rail cracks look like the board hit on the left side causing it. THere is a 3 inch patch of tiny cracks and then two cracks along the rail adjacent to it. Now, the tail is definitly not water tight but the rail damage appears to be subsurface only. How do I attack this one? light Sand (basically just rough the surface slightly), place cloth, laminate, finish up, or sand deeper to the damaged glass layer, then add 2 layers of cloth, laminate, finish up? The tail is a pretty basic repair, remove the loose glass, sand, cloth, laminate, clean up.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. The board hasnt touched the water obviously.

I’d rough the cracks up with 100, lay two layers of 4oz (one slightly larger than the other), hot coat, sand, then finish how ever you want. Make sure the foam isn’t dented in under the cracks too (soft spot), that could cause a problem later on.

An old trick is to dab the cracks with styrene, then laminate over them, the cracks will almost disappear.
